Performance Issues Noted by Pramac Team Director
Pramac team director Gino Borsoi emphasized the critical need for better engine performance from the new Yamaha V4 after Jack Miller and Toprak Razgatlioglu faced challenges during the Catalunya Sprint race on Saturday.
Mixed Results for Razgatlioglu and Miller
While Razgatlioglu struggled with grip throughout the weekend, Miller achieved direct access to Qualifying 2 for the first time this season, marking his best qualifying effort of the year by securing 11th place.
Struggles on the Straight
The Australian managed to maintain his position on the opening lap; however, like the other Yamaha riders, he found himself unable to fend off rivals on the long main straight. Lead rider Fabio Quartararo expressed feeling frustrated as he dropped from seventh to 13th.
Post-Race Analysis
At the end of the race, Alex Rins, Miller, Razgatlioglu, and Yamaha wildcard Augusto Fernandez finished in the last four positions. Borsoi noted, “Unfortunately, in the race we suffered because of the difference in engine performance compared to other manufacturers,” highlighting Yamaha’s need for improved speed.
Chassis Progress with Engine Concerns
Borsoi expressed optimism about the bike’s overall performance, stating that the machine could achieve solid lap times during qualifying, but lacked the top speed necessary for racing. He emphasized the importance of Yamaha enhancing engine performance swiftly while also acknowledging positive developments in the chassis and electronics.
Miller’s Frustration on the Track
Miller echoed these sentiments, commenting that while he felt competitive during most laps and noticed advancements in chassis performance and rear grip, the lack of straight-line speed made overtaking difficult. He conveyed his frustration, as he believed the team had more pace than their final standings reflected.
Razgatlioglu’s Launch Device Misstep
Razgatlioglu experienced his own setbacks, admitting to forgetting to activate the launch device at the race’s start, leading to a poor position. He noted ongoing struggles with corner entry and braking and commented on the difficulty of tire management at the circuit. Despite setbacks, he aimed to learn from his data analysis and improve for the next race.
