Steve Clarke Names Scotland’s World Cup Squad
Scotland’s head coach, Steve Clarke, has announced a 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup, including notable players like Craig Gordon, Findlay Curtis, and Ross Stewart.
At 43, Hearts goalkeeper Gordon returns after missing the last Euros, joining Angus Gunn of Nottingham Forest and Liam Kelly of Rangers in the squad. Interestingly, none of the three have been regular starters for their clubs this season.
Goalkeeper Statistics This Season
- Craig Gordon (Hearts) – 3 appearances
- Liam Kelly (Rangers) – 3 appearances
- Angus Gunn (Nottingham Forest) – 1 appearance
Clarke’s squad reflects loyalty to players from the qualification campaign, with eight defenders and seven midfielders retained. This includes expected figures like captain Andy Robertson, along with Kieran Tierney from Celtic and Aaron Hickey of Brentford.
Midfielders include Scott McTominay, who scored impressively against Denmark, along with John McGinn, Kenny McLean, and Findlay Curtis, the latter highlighted for his standout performance on loan at Kilmarnock.
As Scotland gears up for its first World Cup since 1998, they will face Haiti on June 14, followed by matches against Morocco and Brazil. The team aims to surpass the group stages for the first time in history.
