Recently, we have been predicting the Philadelphia Eagles’ depth chart for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. We began our analysis with offensive predictions, followed by defensive projections, and concluded with special teams. With OTAs starting next week, we present our predictions for the 53-man roster cut. Throughout the offseason, we will keep updating these projections based on significant changes from practices and preseason games. (Check out my 53-man roster projection from last year.)
Quarterback
Jalen Hurts, Andy Dalton, Cole Payton (3) [3]
The Eagles anticipate more from Hurts as a passer this season. Observing his performance will be intriguing, especially how it might influence his future. The Eagles are unlikely to trade Tanner McKee without compelling reasons; however, there’s a chance another team may present a strong offer. Should McKee depart, Dalton would take the role of QB2. Payton may see limited chances as a rookie, potentially involving specialist roles, but is likely to be inactive as the third-string QB unless he impresses. His roster spot isn’t guaranteed, much like Kyle McCord last season.
Running Back
Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby, Will Shipley (3) [6]
After logging 136 fewer touches in 2025 compared to 2024, Barkley should be fresher for the 2026 season. His success will hinge more on an improved offensive line rather than his capabilities. Bigsby demonstrated impressive ball-carrying skills last season with 5.9 yards per carry; the Eagles must avoid underutilizing him again. The coaching staff appreciates Shipley for his blocking and special teams contributions, expecting him to assist in critical game situations. Although Dameon Pierce could compete for a spot, maintaining a fourth running back seems unnecessary.
Wide Receiver
DeVonta Smith, Makai Lemon, Dontayvion Wicks, Hollywood Brown, Darius Cooper (5) [11]
Smith seems prepared to step up as WR1 with A.J. Brown likely to be traded. It will be fascinating to determine if Lemon can become a significant contributor as a rookie. Wicks has potential and could thrive with increased opportunities in Philadelphia. Brown’s experience and deep threat capability make him valuable. The Eagles need reliable contributors, and Cooper can provide that. Johnny Wilson’s injury complicates roster decisions, while Elijah Moore might find himself on the practice squad due to competition.
Tight End
Dallas Goedert, Eli Stowers, Johnny Mundt, Cameron Latu (4) [15]
Goedert remains a strong pass-catching option, but his blocking skills are still a question mark. Stowers might have a limited role as a rookie due to previous coaching hesitance in using him extensively. Mundt stands out as the best blocking tight end, and Latu has shown versatility on special teams. While Grant Calcaterra may contend for a roster spot, undrafted rookie Dae’Quan Wright could surprise and secure a place similar to Darius Cooper last year.
Injured Reserve and Roster Cuts
Injured Reserve (Eligible to Return): Uar Bernard
The NFL allows teams to place two players on injured reserve before final roster cuts, granting them the option to return after four missed games. The Eagles successfully utilized this strategy with Myles Hinton previously, and it’s likely they will do so again with Bernard. Notably, other players like RB Dameon Pierce, WR Elijah Moore, and LB Chance Campbell face competition as they aim for roster spots.
