Vivian Jenna Wilson’s Second Interview
Vivian Jenna Wilson, the 20-year-old daughter of wealthy tech consultant Elon Musk, gave her second interview since he controversially claimed last year that she was “killed” by the “woke mind virus” in a Teen Vogue feature. In 2022, she legally changed her name and gender, expressing in a California court a desire to cut all ties with her father “in any way, shape or form.”
Mocking Her Father on Social Media
Wilson shared with Teen Vogue that although she sometimes pokes fun at Musk on social media platforms like Threads and Bluesky, he doesn’t occupy much of her thoughts. “I see news about him and think, ‘That’s cringe; I should denounce it,’ which I have done before,” she stated. She did not shy away from criticizing him directly, calling the straight-armed salute he gave at a Trump inauguration a clear Nazi salute, and emphasized that the audience cheering during that moment also bears responsibility.
Dismissive of Her Father’s Power
Currently studying in Tokyo, Wilson scoffed at the notion that she might fear her influential father, whom she hasn’t spoken to since 2020. “He’s a pathetic man-child,” she declared. “Why should I be scared of him just because he’s wealthy? I don’t care how much money anyone has.” She further dismissed Musk’s ownership of Twitter, now called “X,” as unimpressive.
Challenging Musk’s Political Narrative
Wilson also pushed back against the narrative Musk has portrayed regarding his shift towards right-wing politics, asserting, “His views are not because of me. It’s a convenient story for him to tell.” She emphasized that his political views evolving further to the right is unrelated to her transition.
Support from Her Mother
Wilson expressed gratitude for the support of her mother, Justine Wilson—Musk’s first wife—throughout her transition. Although she wished she had informed her mother before announcing her transition on Instagram, she noted her mom’s reaction was more of a brief surprise than shock. Wilson believes it’s crucial to raise awareness about gender-affirming care, highlighting the importance of treatments like puberty blockers while condemning the demonization of youths seeking support.
Learning About Half-Siblings Online
Interestingly, Wilson recounted discovering news about her new half-siblings through a subreddit dedicated to RuPaul’s Drag Race, as Musk had jokingly welcomed another child with one of his partners. She also remarked on the lack of humor in the social media commentary from her father and other right-wing figures, saying, “They’re not funny.”
Critique of Elon Musk
Wilson’s comments struck a chord considering Musk’s penchant for humor and popularity. Describing right-wing figures as lacking charisma, she offered an unapologetic critique that stands out in the context of Musk’s efforts to project an appealing image to the public. For a man who seems eager for approval, her assessment is both tough and unmistakably candid.
