PHILADELPHIA – The 25th-ranked University of Missouri wrestling team wrapped up the first day of competition at the NCAA Wrestling Championships held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Tigers achieved four victories during the day, with successes from Keegan O’Toole, Cam Steed, and J Conway. Steed will compete in the consolation bracket at 165 pounds, while O’Toole prepares for the quarterfinals at 174 pounds.
SESSION I
Two Tigers began the tournament on a high note with first-round victories. Big 12 finalist Steed and two-time National Champion O’Toole both progressed to the second round. O’Toole won against Rider’s Michael Wilson by fall, while Steed managed a narrow victory after several reviews at 165 pounds.
The other Tigers faced defeats in the first round, with Kade Moore (133), Conway (157), and Colton Hawks (184) losing by technical fall, and Josh Edmond (141) narrowly losing in overtime.
SESSION II
Conway earned a victory by decision in the consolation pigtail match, progressing to the first round of the wrestlebacks. Moore, however, bowed out after a tough match against former 125-pound third-place finisher Anthony Noto. Edmond also lost his second match, concluding his tournament in sudden victory.
Steed attempted to recover from a prior loss against Cam Amine but fell short, dropping down to the consolation bracket. Conversely, O’Toole turned his match around, securing multiple takedowns in the third period to win against Stanford’s Lorenzo Norman.
In his second match of the evening, Conway competed in the first consolation round against Cobe Siebrecht from South Dakota State but suffered a loss to conclude his participation in the tournament. Lastly, Hawks ended the day with a defeat against the 18 seed.
