Fabio Quartararo expressed his ongoing desire to test a Formula 1 car, according to Motorsport.com.
What happened
Fabio Quartararo recently discussed his ambition to drive a Formula 1 vehicle after earlier plans for a test with Mercedes did not materialize. The MotoGP champion had been set to drive one of Mercedes’ successful cars at the end of 2022, prior to his trip to Barcelona for an F1 race last week.[1]
During this trip, Quartararo reiterated his interest, stating, “Yeah, of course. We had a deal, but we never really did it. But I went to the simulator, I was not so bad, so it’s something that I want to do in life, and we will organize something.”
Why it matters
This potential crossover between MotoGP and F1 could attract significant public interest and present commercial opportunities for both series. With the motorsports world increasingly blurring lines, the opportunity for crossover experiences can enhance fan engagement.[3]
Background
On July 12, 2021, Quartararo secured his first MotoGP title with Yamaha, elevating his profile and opening possibilities for future endeavors. The collaboration between Mercedes and Yamaha under shared sponsors, such as Monster Energy and Petronas, made his potential testing arrangements seem promising.[2]
