Following the conclusion of the first two Masters 1000 tournaments of 2025, many fans are reminiscing about an exciting Sunshine Double.
This year saw two players earn their first Masters 1000 titles at Indian Wells and the Miami Open.
British number one Jack Draper triumphed at Indian Wells, defeating seeded opponents including Ben Shelton, Holger Rune, Taylor Fritz, and Carlos Alcaraz en route to his victory.

Meanwhile, in Miami, Czech teenager Jakub Mensik made headlines by defeating Novak Djokovic to claim his first Masters 1000 title, having eliminated Indian Wells champion Draper in the second round.
Becker Critiques the Miami Open and Suggests Relocating to Puerto Rico
During an appearance on the Becker Petkovic podcast, former world number one Boris Becker shared his thoughts on rumors about the potential sale of the Miami Open and proposed an alternative venue for the event.
“I can comprehend the reasons for considering a sale of the tournament,” he remarked. “I’m unsure if it will remain in Miami because, if we are truly passionate about tennis, we need to find a new venue. Why not explore Puerto Rico for a Masters tournament at a location that reflects your prestige?” Becker expressed skepticism about the Miami Open’s status compared to other Masters 1000 tournaments.

Becker was critical of the audience turnout in Florida, lamenting the event’s organization. “Most of the stadium was only half-filled unless it involved [Joao] Fonseca or took place at the final,” he noted. “Daytime events were often sparsely attended, even the women’s matches.” He noted that tournament director James Blake is not to blame for the shortcomings observed.
Becker pointed out that the management’s focus on a potential sale might be detracting from the event’s overall quality, including match scheduling and organization that directly affects the fan experience.
