Blackthorne Golf Club reopened to the public after a 3½-year closure, according to TribLive. The golf course, located in Penn Township, officially opened its doors on May 27, 2026, following numerous community and legal disputes.
What happened
The Blackthorne Golf Club, situated within the Blackthorne Estates development, resumed operations after remaining closed for the 2023 season. The course is now open Wednesday through Sunday, with final tee times at 6:10 p.m., according to its website. While the back nine holes are temporarily closed, the website indicates they “will open shortly.”
Owner Bob Vucelich was not available for comment regarding the reopening. Residents had expressed frustrations over the protracted closure of the golf facility, which they expected to access freely. Amenities will be limited as a new clubhouse is under construction, the website noted. A “temporary check-in building is in use while we build the new clubhouse.” A wooden structure sits amidst construction equipment near Kapalua Lane.
Why it matters
The reopening of Blackthorne Golf Club allows local residents to regain access to a recreational facility that has been central to community life. The resolution of legal challenges is significant for both residents who sought the return of the golf course and the owners aiming to establish a successful business.
Background
On May 20, 2023, the golf course applied for township approval to build a new clubhouse. Shortly after, Penn Township filed a lawsuit against multiple parties, including the golf course and its development associates. In March 2024, the township reversed its earlier decision against the clubhouse construction, leading to the dropping of the lawsuit shortly afterward.
The Club at Blackthorne had previous issues, including a zoning violation notice issued on February 9, 2023, after a change in ownership. Anthony and Leah Cifelli bought the club for $3.9 million in late 2022, leading to further property disputes.
What’s next
The golf course and its new clubhouse development are expected to continue moving forward, with the back nine holes set to reopen soon. Future events and scheduling for the golf course will be announced as the construction progresses.
