Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip overnight into Tuesday resulted in the deaths of at least 25 individuals, including eight children and five women, as reported by Palestinian medical personnel. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, hospitals received the bodies of 58 individuals killed by these strikes over the past 24 hours.
In a separate development, Israel’s Supreme Court has ruled that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cannot dismiss the head of the internal security agency at least for the next 12 days. Netanyahu expressed confusion over the court’s decision but stated he will continue seeking candidates to replace the head of Shin Bet.
Since ending a ceasefire with Hamas in March, Israel has halted all supplies of food, fuel, and humanitarian aid to Gaza, a strategy that human rights organizations label as a war crime. The Israeli government has also issued displacement orders that have resulted in hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fleeing due to Israeli attacks and ground operations.
Casualties in Ongoing Conflict
The conflict, entering its 18th month, has claimed the lives of over 50,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Israel is committed to intensifying the war until Hamas releases the remaining hostages, disarms, and exits the territory.
School Closures and Local Violence
In East Jerusalem, Israeli authorities have mandated the closure of six UN-run schools within 30 days, affecting approximately 800 Palestinian children. Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), indicated that this closure will likely prevent children from completing the academic year. Israel has prevented UNRWA from operating within its territory since January, despite claims from officials that the agency is heavily influenced by Hamas, a claim UNRWA denies.
Israeli Attacks and Security Cases
On the ground, an Israeli arson attack completely destroyed a Palestinian wedding hall in the West Bank, reportedly committed by Israeli civilians. Although there were no injuries reported, graffiti including messages of revenge was found on the site. Meanwhile, Israeli police are currently investigating this incident.
Compounding the crisis, a Palestinian woman accused of attacking Israeli forces was shot dead by those forces in the West Bank. This incident reflects a surge in violence since the onset of conflict between Israel and Hamas.
