Jannik Sinner’s tennis suspension is coming to an end as he gears up to compete at the Italian Open next month.
The world’s top player captured the Australian Open title in January, defeating Alexander Zverev in the final with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.
Following this victory, Sinner received a three-month suspension from competitive play, causing him to miss two Masters 1000 events.
The 23-year-old will also be absent from this week’s Monte-Carlo Masters and the Madrid Open later this month, but he will return for his home tournament, the Italian Open, in May.
Andy Roddick suggests Andy Murray as an ideal training partner for Jannik Sinner
On his podcast, former world number one Andy Roddick shared his thoughts on who would have been a great training partner for Sinner during his suspension.
“Unusually, if I were in Sinner’s situation, I would have considered someone like Andy Murray for short-term training stints,” Roddick explained. “Murray, a recently retired player, can hit hard and can engage in lengthy rallies, making him suitable.” He emphasized that he would have sought out previously top 100 players who had recently retired to maintain competitive practice during the ban.
