Schefter Shares Insights on Raiders Draft Plans
Adam Schefter, renowned for his extensive network in the NFL, has recently provided valuable insights regarding the upcoming draft that could significantly impact the Raiders.
Raiders Likely to Skip Quarterback in First Round
Following the Geno Smith contract extension, Schefter expressed strong confidence earlier this month that the Raiders are unlikely to select a quarterback with their first-round pick. He stated on ESPN’s NFL Live, “This almost confirms that the Las Vegas Raiders will pass on a quarterback in the first round. They may consider it later, but it’s hard to see them giving Geno Smith $75 million and then drafting a quarterback just three weeks later. They are not likely to follow the Falcons’ strategy.”
Potential Interest in Shedeur Sanders
However, there are speculations that if Shedeur Sanders is still available when the Raiders are on the clock with the sixth pick, they might strongly consider picking him. In a recent appearance on Maxx Crosby’s podcast, Schefter shared that opinions surrounding Sanders have changed, citing his previous belief that Sanders might slide down the draft board.
Impact of the Giants’ Decisions on the Draft
Discussing the draft’s unpredictability, Schefter noted that if the Giants opt to select Shedeur at the third pick, it could alter the course of the entire draft. He mentioned, “The workout in Boulder has made me reconsider. It’s unclear if the Giants will go through with it, but such a decision would definitely change the landscape for everyone.”
Focus on Offensive Linemen for Raiders
Regarding the Raiders’ potential first-round choice, Schefter emphasized that while many anticipate the team will draft a running back, they may ultimately choose someone like offensive tackle Armand Membou instead. He acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding quarterback trades, suggesting that only a couple of quarterbacks might be selected in the first round, with expectations for more activity on day two of the draft.
Wide Receiver Surprises in Draft Predictions
Schefter also made bold predictions about the wide receiver position, speculating that Matthew Golden could be the first receiver selected, surpassing popular prospects such as Tetairoa McMillan and Luther Burden. His predictions suggest that teams might prioritize different players than expected.
Underrated Talent Might Rise in the Draft
Lastly, Schefter pointed out that linebacker Carson Schwesinger of UCLA might be drafted higher than anticipated, suggesting that he could potentially be a first-round pick based on positive feedback from various teams.
