One major decision Duke will be observing this offseason is that of guard Caleb Foster. The four-star recruit from the 2023 class began the 2024-25 season as a starter but was replaced by Sion James in the lineup.
On Thursday, Foster declared that he will be returning to Duke for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
This announcement follows the declaration of star freshman Kon Knueppel for the 2025 NBA Draft, marking him as the first Blue Devils player to announce his draft intentions. Shortly thereafter, standout guard Tyrese Proctor also chose to enter the draft.
Although Duke has not yet made any acquisitions via the transfer portal, changes are anticipated in the near future. Attention now shifts to Cooper Flagg and Khaman Maluach, who are expected to declare for the 2025 NBA Draft before the April 26 deadline. Flagg is favored to be the No. 1 overall pick this summer.
As Duke enters Year 4 under Jon Scheyer, many questions loom. With Flagg, Knueppel, and Maluach likely heading to the NBA, the Blue Devils could face a significant overhaul of their starting lineup once more. James has exhausted his eligibility, and Proctor is opting for a professional career.
Future Decisions for Duke Players
The program also awaits a decision from Isaiah Evans. A former five-star recruit who mostly came off the bench, Evans averaged 7.0 points per game. CBS Sports is continuously monitoring the status of Duke’s roster and recruiting efforts. Here is an update on the current roster and commitments.
Confirmed Returnees for the 2025-26 Season
Caleb Foster | G | Soph.
GP: 38 | PPG: 4.9 | RPG: 1.7 | APG: 1.4
Although Foster began last season as a starter, he transitioned to a bench role earlier this year. After averaging over 25 minutes as a freshman, he logged just 14 minutes last season and will return for his junior year.
Players Awaiting Future Plans
Maliq Brown | F | Jr.
GP: 26 | PPG: 2.5 | RPG: 3.7 | APG: 1.5
Although unable to showcase his talent due to a shoulder injury, Brown was an excellent defender when healthy. His impact on the game goes beyond the numbers.
Isaiah Evans | G/F | Fr.
GP: 36 | PPG: 6.8 | RPG: 1.1 | APG: 0.5
Evans, frequently compared to former Duke star Brandon Ingram, had limited playing time. He faces the choice between returning to Duke, declaring for the NBA Draft as a potential late first-round pick, or transferring.
Cooper Flagg | G/F | Fr.
GP: 37 | PPG: 19.2 | RPG: 7.5 | APG: 4.2
Flagg is one of college basketball’s top prospects and is expected to declare for the NBA Draft soon. His offensive skills have developed significantly throughout the season, solidifying his status as a likely No. 1 overall pick.
