Power Rankings Update
This week’s Power Rankings once again saw a fierce competition for the top position between the Southern California teams. Although we keep our vote totals confidential, we can confirm that the Padres and Dodgers were extremely close in their rankings. It’s fascinating to think they might trade places weekly until their matchup on June 9.
1. Dodgers (Previously: 1)
Shohei Ohtani made his return to the Dodgers on Sunday after missing two games due to the birth of his first child. Congratulations to Shohei! However, his absence was noticeable as the Dodgers struggled with just six runs in those two games; they badly needed him back on the field.
2. Padres (Previously: 2)
Making your MLB debut is thrilling, but for the Padres’ No. 11 prospect, Tirso Ornelas, it turned into a frustrating ordeal. Scheduled to start due to Jason Heyward’s injury, flight delays meant he arrived only 80 minutes before game time, missing the opportunity to start, though he did manage to pinch-hit later in the game.
3. Mets (Previously: 4)
The Mets are riding high after sweeping the Cardinals, energizing their Citi Field crowd. Their pitching has been stellar, and while Juan Soto’s struggles have gone relatively unnoticed, he’s still getting on base, although at a rate that might seem slow for him.
4. Cubs (Previously: 5)
The Cubs continue to excel, leading the league in runs and hits, even after losing Justin Steele for the season. Their offensive output suggests they may take control of their division in the coming weeks.
5. Phillies (Previously: 3)
Bryce Harper is currently enjoying an impressive hot streak, reflecting an overall positive attitude at the plate. He emphasizes the benefits of walking more, helping him see better pitches and improve his performance, maintaining a solid on-base streak.
Conclusion
This week’s rankings highlight the dynamic landscape of the MLB, with many teams showing promise and others facing challenges that will need to be addressed as the season progresses.
