How are teams for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans formed?
The Tour utilizes its priority rankings to determine teams. Players who commit to the event can select their partners if they hold some form of PGA Tour status or are granted a sponsor exemption.
What format is used in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans?
Teams will participate in fourballs (best ball) during Rounds 1 and 3, while they will play foursomes (alternate shot) in Rounds 2 and 4.
Is there a cut in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans?
Yes, the top 33 teams and ties after 36 holes will progress to the final two rounds.
What if there is a playoff after 72 holes?
In case of a playoff, teams will compete in sudden-death using alternating formats (foursomes for the first playoff hole and fourballs for the second, and so on).
What is the prize money and what do the winners receive?
Members of the winning team will receive a two-year exemption on Tour, a place in the PGA Championship, and spots in next year’s Sentry and Players Championship. It counts as an official win for both players, although no Official World Golf Ranking points are awarded. The overall purse is $9.2 million, with each winning team member earning $1,329,400.
Who won the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans?
Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry triumphed over Chad Ramey and Martin Trainer with a par on the first playoff hole. This was McIlroy’s debut in the event. Together, he and Lowry recorded a final round alternate-shot score of 4-under 68, catching Ramey and Trainer, who tied the tournament’s record for foursomes with a score of 63, at 25 under overall.
