Moyes Critiques Everton’s Set-Pieces Ahead of Ipswich Match
David Moyes has harshly evaluated Everton’s performance in set-pieces leading up to their home game against Ipswich Town. Despite having one of the most robust squads in the Premier League, the team has struggled with free-kicks and corners.
Since his return to the club in January, Moyes appointed Charlie Adam to enhance their set-piece strategies. However, the anticipated improvements have yet to be realized in matches.
When asked about Everton’s performance in dead-ball situations during a pre-match press conference, Moyes candidly stated: “It’s been rubbish, and I’d admit that without hesitation.”
Reflecting on the issues, he identified the main problem as “delivery,” emphasizing that quality crosses and passes are crucial for successful set-pieces. “Our delivery has been really, really poor,” Moyes remarked.
The manager highlighted the importance of utilizing multiple squad members for overall success, noting that they need contributions from about 14 to 15 players in each match. He praised substitutes for their significant impact in a recent game against Chelsea.
One substitute who left an impression during that game was Carlos Alcaraz. Although the midfielder is yet to secure a permanent move from Flamengo, Moyes acknowledged his positive contributions when coming off the bench.
Moyes concluded by saying they are continually assessing player performances as they approach the final matches of the season, hoping to identify the best formation and utilize available talent effectively.
