Starting Pitcher Power Rankings Update
There have been significant changes in the Starting Pitcher Power Rankings. In the last two weeks, the top three spots have been completely reconfigured, with five new pitchers joining the list.
The rankings follow a formula created by MLB.com’s data team, which assesses performance over the past year but emphasizes recent and seasonal performance more heavily.
Rankings and statistics reflect results through Tuesday’s games.
1. Tarik Skubal, Tigers (Previously: 4)
Skubal, who won the AL Cy Young Award and Pitching Triple Crown last year with a 2.39 ERA, is back in top form. He boasts a current ERA of 2.21 and has significantly improved his K-to-BB ratio to 9.6. After a slow start in 2025, he has allowed only three runs in his last five games, recording 38 strikeouts against just one walk.
2. Hunter Brown, Astros (6)
Brown is establishing himself as an elite starter with a deep six-pitch repertoire and excellent command. He has a remarkable 1.67 ERA and leads MLB with a 1.80 FIP. Having completed seven quality starts, opponents have posted a mere .504 OPS against him.
3. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Dodgers (7)
Shifting the focus from offseason discussions about Roki Sasaki, Yamamoto has excelled with a stunning 0.90 ERA in 2025. He hasn’t allowed over two earned runs in any of his first seven starts, with three of those outings being scoreless.
4. Logan Webb, Giants (3)
Despite a rough outing against San Diego, Webb has returned strong, bringing his ERA down to 2.61 after a stellar seven-inning performance. This season has also seen a notable increase in his strikeout rate, rising by 8.3 percentage points.
5. Max Fried, Yankees (Not ranked)
Fried may not have the most impressive strikeout stats, but he leads the AL with a 1.01 ERA and contributes significantly to the Yankees’ success, boasting a 7-0 record when he pitches, which is pivotal for the team amidst injuries to key players.
