With the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft, it’s time to dive into the analysis of the Philadelphia Eagles’ rookie class. Over the next few weeks, I plan to cover all 10 draft picks and the undrafted free agents (UDFAs). Many scouting reports may present similar insights, so I’ve included film clips to support my observations. I will also discuss how each player fits into the Eagles’ system. While I’ve obtained the All22 footage for several rookies, sharing those clips on my Twitter accounts is not allowed (to avoid potential blocking), so I’ve sourced some clips from other accounts. Let’s get started!
You can find my podcast feed here for more insights. Additionally, my Patreon provides deeper analysis linked to my podcast. Since All22 clips can’t be shared on Twitter, I’m hosting watch-alongs on Patreon featuring every Eagles rookie, which is pretty exciting!
Strengths
+ Mac McWilliams showcases impressive speed and agility, with sufficient long speed for vertical routes. His quickness makes him effective in both man and zone coverage, allowing him to change direction effortlessly.
+ His versatility includes experience as an outside and slot corner, making him comfortable in various coverage schemes.
+ Displaying good technique, McWilliams remained penalty-free in 2024. He is patient in coverage, avoiding unnecessary risks, which contributes to his reliability.
+ Actively engaging in run support, his slot experience has enhanced this aspect. He recorded 7 tackles for loss and a sack in 2024.
+ As a former receiver, he excels at playing the ball in the air, demonstrating strength when contesting catches.
Weaknesses
– McWilliams is shorter with below-average arm length, which raises concerns about his ability to compete as an outside corner. This physical profile might hinder his performance against taller, more physical receivers.
– Despite his receiving background, he had just 2 interceptions and 2 pass breakups in 2024, partly attributable to his length, which puts him at a disadvantage in contested situations.
– His lack of arm length may also limit his ability to effectively press larger receivers.
– While aggressive in run support, his size might cause detachment issues when wrapping up tackles.
Overall Assessment
Mac McWilliams is a quick, intelligent cornerback with the attributes to remain competitive in the NFL. His film suggests he deserves higher regard than a 5th-round pick, though concerns about his size persist. There’s potential for him to struggle in the league, but his speed and footwork are promising. His contributions on special teams can help secure a roster spot.
While his size and lack of ball production may hinder him as a full-time outside corner, he should be given the chance to learn both slot and outside positions in training camp. In the coming years, I envision him as a reliable backup capable of stepping in as needed, possibly transitioning into a starting role as he develops. For now, I anticipate he will fulfill a versatile role within the Eagles’ defense.
