INTERVIEW: Ben White aims for Arsenal to end the Premier League season on a high note despite recent setbacks and discusses his injury struggles
Ben White stated that Arsenal is willing to settle for a second-place finish, as long as they maintain the determination to improve next season during their final two games. A win against Newcastle, who have defeated Mikel Arteta’s team three times this season, would officially secure the runners-up position.
White highlights that this achievement is significant given the numerous injuries Arsenal has faced throughout a challenging campaign that has tested the squad’s limits. He remarked, “While we can’t win it, we still want to finish as strongly as possible and secure second place, which is very important.”
He acknowledges the difficulties caused by injuries but applauds the team’s ability to cope, noting, “We’ve had substantial injuries, but I think all players who stepped in did incredibly well.”
Despite Arsenal not securing any silverware this season, White is focused on achieving personal milestones. The 27-year-old, who has made only 15 Premier League appearances due to a knee surgery in November, is anticipating becoming a father this summer and aims to return to peak performance for England.
Reflecting on his injury experience, he shared, “I had never faced injury before and didn’t handle it as well as I could have. Being away from the game was challenging, but now I feel ready for the next season.”
Alongside his personal targets, White noted friendly competition within the team, saying, “Competing with Jurrien Timber has been motivating. We offer different skill sets, presenting the coach with varied options.” Arsenal will conclude their season against Southampton next Sunday, with hopes that Kai Havertz can return from injury, which has sidelined him since February.
