Brian Westbrook and Jason Kelce Tee Off
As Brian Westbrook was ready to make his first swing at the Union League Golf Club in Torresdale, Jason Kelce patiently awaited his turn. After hitting a wayward shot, Westbrook let out a hearty laugh, setting a lighthearted tone for the day.
Kelce’s Practice Swings
Aiming to avoid duplicating Westbrook’s opening mishap, Kelce took a few vigorous practice swings while keeping his tee tucked behind his ear. This was part of his preparation for the upcoming Truist Pro-Am event.
Mike Quick Celebrity Invitational
Kelce aimed to utilize his practice at the sixth annual Mike Quick Celebrity Invitational, an event dedicated to raising funds for the First Tee of Greater Philadelphia. He took a moment to adjust his stance before swinging, but his shot veered left of the fairway.
Struggles on the Course
“Nope, that ain’t it,” he remarked after realizing his initial shot had gone off course. Although he faced challenges with his second and third shots that led him into a bunker, Kelce was determined to recover on the next hole with assistance from his caddie, 17-year-old Jake Ruppert.
Support from the Next Generation
Ruppert, a Father Judge High School student and a member of the First Tee for over four years, was particularly excited to caddie for Kelce, a player he had admired throughout his life.
Connecting with Old Friends
Kelce and Westbrook weren’t the only former athletes present, as over 50 golf carts filled the area outside the clubhouse. Other ex-Eagles, such as Seth Joyner and Harold Carmichael, also participated, making it a reunion for old friends who support the event’s mission.
First Tee’s Impact
Mike Quick, who has been involved with First Tee for 12 years, emphasized the importance of the program in nurturing young talent. The organization aims to break down barriers in golf, making the sport accessible to kids from all backgrounds. Participants had the chance to bid on various signed items, with all proceeds benefiting First Tee. After the event, Kelce switched to comfortable sandals and mingled with fans and caddies before Quick delivered closing remarks.
