Cadillac Prepares for Formula 1 Entry in 2026
Cadillac has launched its journey into Formula 1, gearing up for its debut in 2026. With a short timeline, the team is tasked with designing, manufacturing, and testing its F1 car before the season opener in Australia.
After receiving approval for their entry after an initial rejection, Cadillac has worked diligently over the past 11 months. Its establishment marks a notable addition to the F1 grid, as it stands out among existing teams by primarily operating from a new facility in Fishers, Indianapolis.
While preliminary work is underway at their UK site in Silverstone, where numerous warehouses are being developed, the first Cadillac grand prix cars are in the design and build phase, supported by a growing workforce now numbering nearly 600, up from an initial three.
Graeme Lowdon, the team principal, emphasized the urgency of their preparations. “We essentially have a little less than a year to prepare for free practice,” he stated during a tour of the Silverstone site, which is instrumental to their operations.
The team’s operational strategy focuses on a flat management structure that encourages direct collaboration among engineers across various locations, including the US. Lowdon referenced the management style of NASA’s Apollo missions as a model for their approach, aiming to facilitate effective communication amidst the complexities of a multi-site operation.
Looking ahead, Cadillac’s long-term success relies not only on its infrastructure in Fishers but also on attracting skilled personnel. With recruitment underway, the goal is to build a robust team that combines expertise from both sides of the Atlantic, tapping into the advanced engineering capabilities present in the U.S.
As Cadillac works towards its 2026 launch, they are also considering potential drivers for their roster. While speculation surrounds notable names like Valtteri Bottas, Lowdon remains tight-lipped about final decisions. However, he acknowledges the importance of experienced drivers in guiding a new team through its inaugural season.
