On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Eagles conducted their 13th training camp practice in preparation for the 2025 NFL season. The session was notably brief, lasting just under an hour, as the team prepares for upcoming joint practices with the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday and Thursday. Here are some key observations from the NovaCare Complex.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts displayed exceptional accuracy during practice. The Super Bowl MVP completed all eight of his pass attempts, showcasing his connection with wide receiver DeVonta Smith, who was virtually unstoppable. Hurts made some impressive throws, including a bullet pass to Dallas Goedert despite tight coverage. With concerns about his QB ranking, it will be interesting to see if he continues this performance against Jim Schwartz’s defensive lineup over the next two days.
Key injuries were noted, including WR Elijah Cooks (shoulder), OG Landon Dickerson (knee), OL Kenyon Green (shoulder), and DT Gabe Hall (shoulder). Cooks and Green have been absent for three consecutive practices, with Green likely out for the remainder of the preseason. Dickerson is considered “week-to-week” due to a knee injury and is expected to undergo a minor procedure soon, which may allow him to return early in the regular season.
Hall sustained an injury during Sunday’s practice. Additionally, there has been a recent signing of a free agent defensive tackle to bolster the team’s depth. Other players, including LB Zack Baun (back contusion) and WR A.J. Brown (hamstring), have not yet returned to practice as they recover from their respective injuries.
In response to Dickerson’s absence, Brett Toth filled in at left guard with the first team, a role he has reprised during previous practices when Dickerson was limited. Although Toth struggled with snapping in the past, he has adjusted well to his position at guard. If Dickerson were to face a significant injury, the team might have considered moving Tyler Steen to left guard, but for now, it seems Toth will continue as the main replacement.
There was an update on cornerback competition, with Adoree’ Jackson leading with the first-team defense. This marks eight days for Jackson at the top spot, while Ringo has shown that he also rotates in with the starters. It will be intriguing to see how playing time splits against the Browns. Additionally, safety Andrew Mukuba took first-team reps for the first time since his shoulder injury, indicating that the competition for positions remains active.
Looking ahead, joint training camp practices against the Cleveland Browns are scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, and Thursday, August 14, starting at 10:00 AM Eastern at the NovaCare Complex. The Eagles will also face the Browns in a preseason game on August 16 at Lincoln Financial Field, followed by an off day on August 17.
