Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys shine as leading players in the 2025 tour season.
Pegula, who was a finalist at last year’s US Open, has captured three titles this year across different surfaces, a feat unmatched in the women’s game.
Meanwhile, Keys celebrated her first Grand Slam victory by defeating both Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka in two consecutive matches at the Australian Open.
Before the Australian Open, both players competed in a WTA final in Adelaide, where their friendship was evident as they discussed travel plans prior to the match.
Travel Plans Before the Adelaide Final
During a recent episode of ‘The Player’s Box Podcast’, Pegula and Keys reminisced about their chats before the Adelaide final. Keys noted, “We were in contact on the day of the final, texting about flying to Melbourne together after our match.”
Pegula shared her worries about not reaching Melbourne in time, emphasizing the urgency of their travel plans. “We were trying to coordinate flights, as there were none available,” she recalled, considering sharing a private flight with their teams.
Ultimately, Keys triumphed over Pegula in the final. After the match, Pegula sent her a touching message expressing her belief in Keys’ ability to win the Australian Open, a prediction that proved correct as Keys went on to achieve her second title of the year, extending her win streak to 12 matches.
Madison Keys’ Impressive Win Streak
Despite her recent success, including winning in Adelaide and at the Australian Open, Keys faced challenges at the US Open, where she was eliminated in the first round. Nevertheless, she is on track to qualify for the WTA Finals, marking only the second time in her career.
Path to the 2025 WTA Finals
Currently positioned fifth in the ‘Live WTA Race’, she stands a solid chance of qualification without needing to be in the top eight, as players ranked between ninth and 20th who have won a Grand Slam this year can enter directly.
With a significant points buffer from the 20th ranked player, Keys looks poised to compete in the WTA Finals set to commence on Saturday, November 1.
