The Injury Report Ahead of Lions vs. Bears
The Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears have released their injury designations for Week 2 before their Sunday divisional clash. This week, much attention has been on the health status of Lions starting left tackle Taylor Decker, who is marked as questionable for the game.
Decker hasn’t practiced during the week, but the Lions are willing to give him ample time to recuperate, considering the possibility of him playing this Sunday—provided there’s no risk of long-term injury.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell mentioned, “We’re just trying to buy him some time here, to where he feels better. Decker has played a lot of football, so he’ll be prepared as long as it feels right. We still have another day, so we’ll see. I can’t definitively say he’ll play, but that’s the current situation.”
On Wednesday, Decker expressed his desire to play on Sunday, and offensive coordinator John Morton stated that the team expects him to participate. However, Campbell emphasized that they won’t take risks if there’s potential for lingering issues throughout the season.
Should Decker be unable to play, Campbell confirmed that Giovanni Manu would step in as the starting left tackle, having practiced in that role all week. “He’s been getting reps, and I noticed he practiced better these last two days,” Campbell said regarding Manu.
When Manu was asked about his readiness for the game, he enthusiastically responded, “Hell yeah. Against a divisional opponent? Hell yeah!”
As we look at Friday’s injury report, it’s clear that fans should monitor any updates on Decker, especially since the Lions are playing at home, allowing them to make a game-time decision. While Decker is questionable, safety Kerby Joseph was a late addition to the report, nursing a knee injury that has persisted since training camp, keeping his status for Sunday uncertain.
