Sean “Diddy” Combs is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday following his conviction for transporting women to engage in sex-for-drugs activities.
At 55, the hip-hop mogul, currently held without bail, is set to appear in federal district court in Manhattan. Judge Arun Subramanian will preside over the sentencing hearing, where Combs is expected to address the court.
Combs faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison. A jury convicted him on two counts of transporting individuals for prostitution under the Mann Act, associated with his former partner, Cassie Ventura, and a witness known as “Jane.” Each count carries a maximum sentence of 10 years.
The founder of Bad Boy Records was acquitted of serious charges, including racketeering and coercive sex trafficking, which could have led to a life sentence.
Prosecutors Seek Over 11 Years
Federal prosecutors have requested that Judge Subramanian impose a sentence of more than 11 years, or at least 135 months, alongside a maximum fine of $500,000. In a detailed 161-page filing, they have argued that Combs has shown little remorse and that his punishment should reflect the “significant psychological, emotional, and physical harm” inflicted on his victims.
Defense Requests a Shorter Sentence
The defense seeks a sentence of no more than 14 months, factoring in the time Combs has already spent in custody since his arrest in September 2024. They argue that the consequences of his arrest have severely damaged his reputation and businesses. His lawyers emphasized Combs’s difficult conditions in jail, where he has been under suicide watch and faced unsanitary living conditions.
Ventura’s Plea to the Court
In a letter to the court, Cassie Ventura urged Judge Subramanian to consider the lives affected by Combs’s actions. She described her past decade with Combs as filled with abuse and manipulation, expressing concern for her safety if he were to be released.
