Eli Tomac’s Recent Challenges and Triumphs
Eli Tomac’s pursuit of greater achievements in recent seasons has been marred by injuries.
In 2023, he faced a major setback in what seemed to be a guaranteed Supercross title when he ruptured his Achilles tendon during the penultimate race of the season.
In 2024, Tomac suffered a thumb injury while training just prior to the season’s end, causing him to miss most of the Pro Motocross series. His situation wasn’t unique, as both Jett Lawrence and Cooper Webb also encountered thumb injuries that season.
A Fresh Start in 2025
Entering 2025, Tomac felt optimistic and celebrated a remarkable achievement with a win in Round 2 at San Diego, extending his winning streak to 12 consecutive seasons.
However, just two weeks later, his main competitor, Jett Lawrence, suffered an injury in a Supercross race in Glendale, Arizona. Tomac’s relief was short-lived as he broke his leg in the subsequent round in Tampa, leading to the announcement that he would likely miss the remainder of the season.
Recovery and Preparation
Tomac had aspirations to return before the Supercross season concluded to prepare for the Pro Motocross title, but ultimately, it was decided he should take extra time off to ensure a full recovery.
Upon return, Tomac quickly proved his capabilities, finishing second in the Motocross opener at Fox Raceway in California. His performance throughout the early rounds included two second-place finishes, four podiums, and a fourth-place finish as his worst result.
Challenges in Outdoor Racing
Despite a promising start, Tomac faced difficulties later in the outdoor season, finishing outside the top five in three final rounds, which significantly impacted his campaign. After missing numerous rounds in Supercross, he started the playoffs seeded seventh, yet managed to maintain his confidence while achieving podium finishes.
Looking Ahead to 2026
The main obstacle for Tomac’s championship hopes remains the Lawrence brothers. Jett announced he would miss the start of the Supercross season due to pre-season injuries, while Hunter is a strong competitor but doesn’t match Jett’s prowess.
Additionally, Tomac’s transition to a new bike and team adds further uncertainty. After four successful years with Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing, he has taken on a new role as the rider who finished second in last year’s Supercross championship.
