We have recently received encouraging news about the much-anticipated sequel to The Wolf Among Us. After years of development hurdles, including cancellations and a revival, the game now appears closer to release than ever. Current rumors suggest a major re-reveal may occur later this year, with a projected launch window possibly set for 2027.
Further expanding on information from the Press Over report, we have confirmed that an Argentinian studio has been co-developing the sequel since last year. However, the key takeaway isn’t solely about the sequel; there’s potential news of an upgrade to the original The Wolf Among Us hinted at in that same report. Based on new findings, it seems that a current-gen port or remaster is indeed underway at this partner studio.
Evidence of Ongoing Work on a TWAU Port/Remaster
As previously mentioned, we have confirmed the identity of the studio collaborating with Telltale Games. Although we initially planned to keep their name under wraps until an official announcement, the community at The Wolf Among Us subreddit pieced together that the co-developer is Trick Studio, an Argentinian developer known for assisting on various projects, including Telltale’s The Expanse: A Telltale Series.
Our investigation revealed several images posted recently that, while not of the best quality, offer insights into the work taking place at the studio. These images strongly suggest that the beloved 2013 game is undergoing a technical upgrade. Evidence includes two screenshots from familiar in-game locations and a third image of the game’s menu, as illustrated in the comparisons below.
Note: We’ve included official screenshots from the original release of The Wolf Among Us alongside the newly captured, blurred images, clearly referencing identical scenes.
The first image shows a development version of the game featuring Ichabod Crane’s Business Office, with visible yellow boxes indicating areas used for outlining interactive objects within the game environment. A second picture appears to be a close-up of Crane’s desk, adorned with technical overlays and data from the game engine.
To conclude, the third image displays the same menu from the original title. While it might not provide extensive information, it reinforces the connection to the first game rather than indicating early prototypes for the sequel. It’s also worth noting that Telltale has transitioned to Unreal Engine 5 for the sequel, moving away from the original engine used in the first game. This further minimizes the likelihood of relying on previous work for the new installment.
However, the strongest evidence suggesting that development is in progress for the classic Telltale game comes from the studio’s public website. Notably discovered by the Reddit community, earlier listings (now removed but archived here) indicated two projects as early as March 2025: one featuring a placeholder for The Wolf Among Us 2, and another explicitly labeled as a port of the original game.
While we cannot entirely dismiss the possibility that this development may be aimed at bringing the game to Nintendo Switch, the specifics from Press Over’s report imply we shouldn’t overlook the chance for a broader upgrade for modern consoles overall. We await official confirmation from Telltale Games regarding the port/remaster’s validity, and we hope answers come soon. If the sequel is indeed slated for 2027, announcements for this upgrade may precede it to create buzz for the franchise ahead of the highly anticipated sequel.
