In 2017, Jon Green resided in Carlsbad, New Mexico, a small city surrounded by an expansive red desert. A routine medical check-up would lead to significant changes in his life and that of his doctor, Kim Lark.
Erin Moriarty: How would you have described him on his first day?
Dr. Kim Lark: He was smiling, happy, engaging—he made me feel at ease.
As their relationship progressed, they began texting and eventually dating.
Dr. Kim Lark: We discovered shared interests… skiing and biking became our activities.
A Troubled History
Early on, Green revealed a troubled past to Kim, informing her of a false arson accusation he faced over 20 years ago, which resulted in two deaths, including that of a prominent banker in Monte Carlo.
Dr. Kim Lark: Initially, I believed him. I wanted to see the best in him.
By Valentine’s Day 2020, they had married and settled into what seemed to be a stable life, with Kim managing a successful medical practice and owning a home on four acres of land.
Erin Moriarty: At that point, did you understand what he was capable of?
Dr. Kim Lark: I had no idea.
Documentary filmmaker Molly Forster, who has investigated Green’s story, expressed that he has consistently misled others and caused significant distress.
Molly Forster: He has successfully deceived many people, resulting in a lot of trauma.
In April 2022, Kim discovered her checkbook was missing shortly after noticing something suspicious at the bank.
Deceit and Theft
Kim learned that Jon had tried to cash forged checks in her name. Shortly after filing for divorce, he stole more than just money—he took her beloved search and rescue dogs.
Dr. Kim Lark: He took my dogs and my car. They mean everything to me.
The dogs had been trained for search and rescue missions, and Kim felt a deep bond with them.
Dr. Kim Lark: My dogs are with me all the time, they’re irreplaceable.
Desperate Measures
With concerns that Jon took the dogs to Texas, Kim enlisted the help of Abel Peña, a former FBI agent who founded a nonprofit to find missing individuals.
After some time, Peña discovered Jon’s whereabouts and alerted law enforcement, leading to his capture in June 2022 for forgery and larceny.
Abel Peña: When I saw him, I immediately checked for the dogs but they weren’t there.
Peña later tracked down Kim’s dogs at a location connected to one of Jon’s friends, where he found not just the dogs but also puppies born just before their reunion.
Life Behind Bars
After his arrest, discussions in jail led Jon to express animosity toward Kim, revealing his willingness to pay for her murder.
Greg Markham: He was furious with her, seeking revenge.
Markham, who was incarcerated on drug charges, pretended to agree to Jon’s plot to harm Kim.
Greg Markham: I told him I’d do it—but I was only looking to get bail.
Jon wanted to hire Markham to poison Kim as part of a twisted plot, which led to new charges against him.
A Twisted Legacy
In March 2025, Green’s trial concluded, with Markham detailing the alleged murder schematics and motivations.
Despite his claims of innocence, Jon Green was found guilty of soliciting murder, overshadowing his earlier life in Monaco as Ted Maher, where he was once accused of arson that resulted in two fatalities.
Ultimately, Jon was sentenced to nine years in prison, with the possibility of release in under three years.
Dr. Kim Lark: His dishonesty has finally caught up with him.
