1. Reijnen Gains Attention as Reds Consider Coaching Boost
Liverpool is moving closer to hiring Etiënne Reijnen for their coaching team, which reflects the club’s ongoing support for Arne Slot.
Slot’s role has come under significant scrutiny as the team has yet to secure Champions League qualification. Fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the team’s performance during their last home game, and some first-team players showed their support for Mohamed Salah’s critical social media statement last Saturday. Nevertheless, the club is supporting Slot’s request to enhance his coaching staff for the upcoming summer.
Reijnen and Slot previously played together at PEC Zwolle, and Reijnen became Slot’s assistant at Feyenoord last year. Slot had intended to bring him along to Liverpool when he first took charge, but work permit complications stalled the move.
While the deal to reunite the two hasn’t finalized, discussions are advancing. Feyenoord’s technical director, Dennis te Kloese, hinted at Reijnen’s impending departure, stating, “Reijnen is an exceptionally talented young coach. He wouldn’t go abroad without a compelling reason.”
Slot chose not to confirm the potential signing recently, but he acknowledged their past collaboration: “As nothing is finalized, I won’t discuss our signings. However, I hold him in high regard and sought to sign him two years ago.”
2. Moyes Urges Everton to Navigate Challenges
David Moyes emphasized the need for a “big summer” at Everton, calling on the club’s owners to show ambition to drive the team forward.
Moyes expressed disappointment over a lackluster end to the season, which has dashed European qualification hopes and revealed weaknesses within the squad. “It only takes a few key players to dip in form for results to change,” he noted.
Having recently seen his team compete effectively for the first time in years, Moyes believes the next steps taken by the Friedkin Group will be crucial. “A significant summer might just involve one exceptional signing to impact the team, not necessarily purchasing multiple players,” he explained, stressing the importance of ambition moving forward.
Moyes acknowledged the struggles Everton supporters have faced in recent seasons and expressed hope for continued improvement. “We must build on this season and not settle for merely avoiding relegation. I trust the owners will help us secure the next crucial elements for advancement.”
Everton is set to face relegation-threatened Tottenham on the final day, where a win alongside a West Ham victory would maintain the Scot’s prior club’s Premier League status.
“While I would love to help West Ham remain in the league, securing a top-half finish for Everton is paramount, especially for financial benefits,” he declared. “We are going to Tottenham solely focused on achieving a result.” AH
3. Merino Making a Comeback After Using Mobility Scooter
Mikel Merino of Arsenal was concerned he might not play again following a rare stress fracture in his foot, which required him to use a mobility scooter for two months.
Merino is expected to be included in Luis de la Fuente’s World Cup squad next week after returning to training, and he hopes to have a role in Arsenal’s final match against Crystal Palace, where the team will celebrate their Premier League title.
Watching the team pursue their first title in 22 years from the sidelines was challenging for him, as he struggled to deal with the uncertainty regarding his injury initially.
“Initially, I was quite scared. There were many unknowns regarding my recovery and whether I could return to play,” he recounted. “The first few weeks were tough, but I focused on maintaining a positive mindset to push forward.”
Merino added: “I had two choices: succumb to despair or stay positive and work on self-improvement. With a mobility scooter, I tried to find joy in the experience and enjoy time outdoors with my dog.” Ed Aarons
4. Burnley’s Return to Premier League Will Be a Major Challenge
Mike Jackson cautioned that Burnley cannot take for granted their immediate return to the Premier League after experiencing their third relegation in five seasons. The Clarets have bounced back from the Championship twice before, each time at the first opportunity.
“There will be expectations since we achieved it immediately twice,” Jackson remarked. “However, achieving such success requires significant work both on and off the pitch, and complete commitment to the task ahead.”
Burnley has struggled in the league, winning only four of 37 matches before concluding a disappointing season against bottom-placed Wolves.
“Our immediate goal is to finish the season positively,” Jackson stated, emphasizing the need to capitalize on home advantage. “We need to generate better results at home.” PA Media
5. Silva to Decide His Future Next Week
Marco Silva has indicated that a decision about his future with Fulham will be made next week. His contract is set to expire this summer, and he has been linked with a return to Benfica.
However, Silva stated that Fulham is currently the only club presenting an offer. He noted, “I don’t see this as an issue; it’s simply a matter of being at the end of my contract. We’ve been in discussions with the club, and clarity will emerge next week.”
“I have one offer that has been on the table for a while, and that is from Fulham Football Club,” he added.
Fulham will also make a late decision regarding Ryan Sessegnon, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, while Joachim Andersen remains suspended. PA Media
