Kansas City Chiefs Prepare for NFL OTAs
NFL Organized Team Activities (OTAs) are just around the corner, providing the Kansas City Chiefs with an opportunity to evaluate their entire 91-man offseason roster.
This season is expected to feature a notable number of rookies, along with several intriguing undrafted free agents joining the Chiefs’ young talent pool.
The Chiefs made significant investments in the cornerback position during the draft, selecting Mansoor Delane from LSU with the sixth overall pick and Jadon Canady in the fourth round at 109th overall. These players will join a defensive unit that includes Nohl Williams and Kristian Fulton, among others.
To further strengthen their cornerback group, the Chiefs added an undrafted free agent from San Diego State shortly after the draft.
Bryce Phillips, originally from Long Beach, California, played at Santa Ana College before transferring to Tennessee State and completing his college career at San Diego State. In his final season, he recorded 34 tackles, nine passes defended, and one interception.
As OTAs approach and with only a few months until training camp, Phillips has ample opportunity to demonstrate his worth and secure a spot post-preseason cuts. He stands 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 202 pounds, and has solid athletic metrics, including a 37.5-inch vertical leap and a 4.56-second 40-yard dash time.
Phillips showed promise alongside Miami Dolphins first-round pick Chris Johnson at SDSU, where they formed one of the strongest college football duos in 2025. Although he went undrafted, many believe he possesses the potential to thrive in Kansas City, fitting well into defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s scheme with his versatility in both man and zone coverage.
Phillips’ aggressive style of play, highlighted by effective man coverage and solid tackling abilities, aligns with Spagnuolo’s preference for physical cornerbacks. His performance during OTAs could lead to a role on the practice squad or even make the active roster as the season unfolds.
