Join CDC Gaming as we travel inside America’s Casinos. For our 12th destination, we explore Caesars Atlantic City.
As I planned my visits to various Atlantic City properties, I intentionally saved Caesars Atlantic City Hotel & Casino for one of my final stops. Having experienced Caesars properties across the nation, I anticipated what to find, but I was intrigued by how it integrates with the local atmosphere of Atlantic City.
By the time I reached Caesars, I had immersed myself in various facets of the local casino scene, exploring the all-inclusive resort feel at Borgata, the chic modern aesthetic of Ocean, the vibrant energy at Harrah’s, and the vintage allure of Bally’s. I was aware that Caesars would offer a different experience.
A Key Player in Atlantic City’s Landscape
Caesars Atlantic City debuted in 1979, making it one of the foundational casinos after New Jersey legalized gambling via the 1976 Casino Control Act. In its early years, the casino aimed to rival Las Vegas as an East Coast destination, positioning itself as an appealing holiday resort while still prioritizing gambling as a revenue stream.
With its Las Vegas branding, Caesars Atlantic City emerged as a cornerstone in establishing the city’s reputation as a glamorous gambling hub. It played a significant role in defining Atlantic City’s upscale casino image.
Arriving at a Boardwalk Icon
Approaching Caesars along the Boardwalk, its Roman-inspired facade, vibrant signage, grand sculptures, and fountains were hard to miss. The iconic red Roman-type logo created a sense of anticipation, much like the experience of entering Caesars in Las Vegas.
First Impressions: Theatrical Roman Escape
Caesars evokes a sense of nostalgia from an era that began in 1990s Las Vegas, focusing on creating immersive and fantastical environments for visitors. Unlike many modern casinos that blend into everyday hospitality, Caesars aims to transport guests to an enchanting world. Stepping inside, it was apparent that the Roman theme remains prominent, immersing guests in a theatrical experience reminiscent of its Las Vegas counterpart.
Entertainment Beyond Gambling
Caesars is designed for more than just gaming; it offers diverse entertainment experiences. As I walked through, I encountered a replica of ancient Rome, with luxurious marble corridors and lively piazzas featuring shops, restaurants, and bars. The hotel boasts three towers, 1,144 rooms, a variety of dining options, and nightlife venues, all operating under the hotel’s integrated structure.
The Casino Floor: A Multifaceted Experience
Covering 145,000 square feet, Caesars Atlantic City features a vibrant gaming area with over 1,700 slot machines and around 130 table games. The design is segmented, creating distinct sections within the casino, each offering a unique atmosphere. While the sportsbook area captures an urban, youthful vibe, the main gaming floor stays true to Caesars’ traditional opulence.
As I exited Caesars, I reflected on the rarity of this brand’s style in the changing landscape of casino design, which often favors minimalism and subtle luxury. While Caesars may not perfectly align with the younger crowd’s preferences, there is something refreshing about its unwavering commitment to original excess. Walking down the Boardwalk, it was clear that Caesars embraces its identity, remaining true to its roots.
