Casper Ruud is participating in the BNP Paribas Nordic Open in Stockholm this week. Bolavip had the opportunity to speak with the Norwegian on the tournament’s first day about his 2025 performance, the ATP schedule, and his reactions to Novak Djokovic’s recent statements.
The 26-year-old achieved his most significant accomplishment this season by winning the Masters 1000 title in Madrid. He describes this year as memorable, yet he admits he is not entirely pleased with his performance in 2025 overall.
Ruud is still determined to conclude the lengthy season with a place in the ATP Finals, even if he currently trails the eighth-ranked player in the live race to Turin by nearly 1,000 points.
Reflection on the Season
Although Ruud celebrated winning the biggest title of his career, he also didn’t manage to win consecutive matches in Grand Slam events this season. As a result, he feels that his 2025 season has not met his expectations.
“It has been a mix of highs and lows,” Ruud stated. “This season has presented new challenges, including being sidelined for multiple weeks due to my knee. While the Madrid title made this year memorable, too many early tournament exits have left me feeling unsatisfied.”
Final Push for ATP Finals
Ruud recognizes the possibility of qualifying for the ATP Finals but stresses that significant results will be necessary in the season’s final stretch. He remains optimistic about finishing the season strongly and advancing his position.
Discussing upcoming matches, he emphasized, “Considering the standings, if you finish 11th or 15th, the difference is negligible. Therefore, I am motivated to give it my all for a strong finish.”
Ruud also addressed Djokovic’s recent comments regarding player unity and scheduling, indicating his agreement with Djokovic’s perspective. He elaborated on the economic pressures that compel players to participate in ATP events, even when it could be detrimental to their well-being.
