Conflicts arose within the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) and Goa Cricket Association (GCA), prompting complaints against representatives Daljit Singh and Rohan Gauns Dessai, respectively, for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) elections.
Recent developments revealed pushback against nominations for Harbhajan Singh from the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), Rajeev Shukla from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), and Raghuram Bhat from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). BCCI electoral officer AK Joti dismissed these complaints after investigation.
Complaints were also lodged against Pranav Amin from the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) and Nabam Vivek from the Arunachal Cricket Association, but Joti rejected these arguments as well. In total, representatives from 35 state associations submitted objections, with seven facing challenges.
A member of the PCA, Rakesh Handa, argued that Harbhajan’s nomination contradicted constitutional rules, citing ongoing complaints regarding his position as ‘Chief Cricketing Advisor’ of the PCA. However, Joti dismissed the claim after Amarjit Singh, PCA president, clarified that Harbhajan’s role was honorary.
Similarly, Joti sought explanations from UPCA about Shukla’s nomination. Following clarification from UPCA CEO Ankit Chatterjee, Joti confirmed the nomination was valid, allowing Shukla’s re-election as vice-president. Challenges regarding Bhat’s eligibility and Daljeet Singh’s nomination were also dismissed.
AGM to Elect New Leadership
The BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) is set to elect Mithun Manhas as the new president with Devajit Saikia continuing as secretary. Raghuram Bhat will become treasurer, and all new office-bearers will be elected unopposed. New selectors for the senior men’s team include Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh.
