Gemini for Home represents Google’s revitalized approach to smart homes, encompassing multiple significant features: an app, camera, and voice assistant. Here’s the rollout timeline for Gemini for Home based on the company’s announcements.
Currently Rolling Out (Starting October 1)
The updated Google Home app featuring a new layout with three bottom tabs is now being globally distributed as of now. Ensure you have version 4.0 (featuring a refreshed homescreen icon) on Android and iOS. This is being done through a server-side update.
The Ask Home search/chat function in the Google Home app is currently accessible in the following nations:
- United States (English)
- Canada (English and French)
- United Kingdom (English)
- Ireland (English)
- Australia (English)
- New Zealand (English)
The following features are available to all (free) users:
- Quick Search: Instantly search for devices and automations from the search bar, with immediate results as you type.
- Device Queries: Inquire about device statuses, such as “Which lights are on?” or “Is the front door locked?”
- Real-time Device Control: Execute commands like, “Close all blinds,” with immediate effect.
Starting October 28, 2025
The Gemini for Home voice assistant, which will replace the Google Assistant, will start rolling out to US users who opt into the “Early Access” program beginning October 28.
Note: Early access pertains only to the Gemini for Home (AI) features. The existing Public Preview program will still be operational for testing the latest features of the Google Home app.

- Tap your Profile Picture or Initial in the top right corner.
- Select Home settings >Early Access.

Early 2026
Gemini for Home camera functionalities for the newly introduced New Cams and Doorbell are expected to roll out to “additional supported regions by early 2026,” which includes Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
Furthermore, the plan is to extend the Gemini for Home voice assistant to more countries in early 2026.
Spring/March 2026
According to the company, the new Google Home Speaker is projected to launch in “Spring 2026.” The Australian Google Store suggests a more specific timeframe of March 2026.
