Indigenous Gaming Partners (IGP) has secured legal approval for its acquisition of Gamehost, according to Canadian Gaming Business. The Court of King’s Bench of Alberta issued a final order for the transaction on June 11, paving the way for IGP’s expansion in Alberta’s gaming and hospitality sector.
What happened
The Court of King’s Bench of Alberta authorized IGP’s acquisition of Gamehost, allowing a subsidiary of Pure Casino Entertainment Limited Partnership to purchase all outstanding Gamehost common shares for $13.65 in cash per share. This decision follows shareholder approval obtained during a special meeting held on June 11.
Gamehost confirmed that the acquisition will proceed through a plan of arrangement under Alberta’s Business Corporations Act. The transaction is expected to close before the end of June, pending customary conditions, including regulatory approvals required under gaming laws.
The agreement marks a significant step for IGP, which was established in 2024 through a partnership between five Nova Scotia-based First Nations and Sonco Gaming Inc.
Why it matters
The acquisition is crucial for IGP, as it will expand its footprint in Alberta’s land-based gaming sector. Upon completion, IGP’s portfolio will include seven casinos and two hotels, significantly increasing its capacity and market presence. This strategic move places IGP in a strong position as Alberta prepares to launch its online gambling market on July 13.
Background
On May 20, 2026, IGP initially announced its intention to acquire Gamehost, signaling its commitment to expanding Indigenous ownership within Canada’s gaming industry. The participation of five First Nations in the partnership demonstrates a growing trend toward increased Indigenous involvement in the gaming sector.
Following rigorous discussions and negotiations, IGP secured shareholder approval and, now, court authorization, allowing it to proceed with the acquisition just ahead of significant regulatory changes in Alberta’s gaming landscape.
What’s next
The companies aim to finalize the acquisition by the end of June, subject to remaining regulatory approvals. Once completed, IGP will be well-positioned to enter Alberta’s regulated online gambling market, which is set to launch on July 13, featuring numerous competitive operators.
