Jorge Martin has downplayed the potential for a conflict to arise with his teammate Marco Bezzecchi as they both aim for the 2026 MotoGP championship.
The two Aprilia riders are currently the frontrunners for the title, with just a single point separating them after the initial five races of the season.
Following a stellar 2025 season where Bezzecchi was the runner-up to champion Marc Marquez and clinched three wins, he was anticipated to spearhead the team’s efforts this year.
However, Martin’s swift resurgence after a challenging first season with Aprilia has shifted the team dynamics. At the recent French Grand Prix, Martin achieved his first victory of the season by winning both the sprint and the main race, marking his return to competitiveness akin to his title-winning 2024 campaign.
The situation becomes more intricate as Martin plans to transition to Yamaha at the end of this year, whereas Bezzecchi has already pledged his future to Aprilia and is seen as their long-term leader.
Despite these circumstances, Martin refuted claims that a title rivalry could lead to discord within the team. “I haven’t heard anything about that from Aprilia, so I can’t comment on that,” the Spaniard commented, referring to a strategy that reportedly aims to provide both riders an equal chance in the championship contention.
“Marco and I share a solid relationship. We’re not exactly friends, but we aren’t enemies either. As teammates, our goal is to assist each other in defeating rival brands. There’s no reason we should hit that supposed ‘clash,’ which seems illogical,” he added. This understanding is crucial for maintaining harmony in the team and to prevent jeopardizing their chances against other competitors.
