During a recent practice session, RCB’s Rajat Patidar showcased his recovery from a hand injury, hitting the ball powerfully. An intense week of uncertainty in the league proved beneficial for some players, including Patidar, according to RCB’s cricket director, Mo Bobat.
Patidar’s hand has healed well, allowing him to return as RCB aims for playoff qualification. Similarly, Phil Salt also returned to training, and both players practiced against a bowler mimicking Varun CV’s spin bowling. The session included other players like Tim David and Romario Shepherd as well.
Despite recent challenges, RCB has welcomed back almost all of its overseas players, excluding Josh Hazlewood. The team is entering a critical phase this season, especially after an injury placed Devdutt Padikkal on the sidelines, raising potential selection dilemmas.
If Salt reclaims his spot at the top of the order, RCB’s batting lineup may consist predominantly of right-handed batsmen, potentially affecting their tactics. However, Bobat expressed confidence in this approach, suggesting it is less significant with the current impact player rule in play.
Bobat noted that opposition strategies vary, often influenced by data analysis, but he remains confident in RCB’s game plan. The absence of Hazlewood opens up several options for RCB, including utilizing Nuwan Thushara or Lungi Ngidi, as well as the possibility of including Rasikh Dar, which could add a layer of tactical flexibility.
Bobat concluded that as the season progresses, RCB will evaluate potential replacements thoughtfully, emphasizing confidence in the existing talent within the team.
