Eberechi Eze Set to Finalize Move to Arsenal, Marking Crystal Palace’s Record Sale
Oliver Glasner stated that he will remember Eberechi Eze for his critical contributions rather than his recent absence before leaving Crystal Palace. On Thursday, Glasner shared that Eze, who is undergoing a medical for his £67.5 million transfer to Arsenal, contacted him to express feeling unwell ahead of the team’s match against Fredrikstad.
Although the 27-year-old attended the game at Selhurst Park, he did not participate and quietly departed without a farewell. When asked about his feelings regarding the situation, Glasner remarked, “He is still our player, but not for long, so I won’t discuss it further.”
Nevertheless, Glasner took a moment to honor Eze’s impact on the team and acknowledged that the England international will forever be remembered for his crucial role in the club’s achievements.
Glasner remarked, “He faced challenges at the start of the last season, but experiencing those difficulties helped him grow as a player. In crucial moments, great players always show up, and we could depend on Eze in significant games—this is what he brought to both the team and Crystal Palace.”
With Palace set to face Nottingham Forest in an anticipated match, Glasner indicated that Romain Esse, a £14.5 million signing from Millwall, is not yet ready to step into Eze’s shoes. Esse scored during his Premier League debut against Brentford but lacks the experience needed to replace Eze immediately.
Glasner also expressed concerns about finding a direct replacement for Eze, suggesting that instead, he seeks a player who can enhance the team’s overall performance, much like Ismaila Sarr has done.
He emphasized, “I’m focused on Crystal Palace; losing players like Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise leaves gaps that must be filled. If we don’t make smart decisions now, we could quickly find ourselves struggling again.”
