Tristan Stubbs has proven he can dominate both spin and pace bowling, displaying a ferocious ability to score runs to the off-side as well as the leg side. His performances in the last two IPL seasons have established him as one of the most effective batters during the death overs. Last season, he finished as the second-highest scorer for the Delhi Capitals, which led to his retention before the mega auctions.
In IPL 2024, Stubbs accumulated 378 runs from 13 innings at an impressive average of 54 and a strike rate of 190.90. Among the 32 instances of a DC player scoring over 350 runs in a season, he ranks second for strike rate, only surpassed by Virender Sehwag. Additionally, he ranks among the top strike-rate holders when scoring 350-plus from positions No. 4 or lower.
A significant 61% of Stubbs’ runs since 2024 have come in the closing stages of matches, where he leads all batters in scoring during these overs. His performance encompasses the best strike rate, average, boundary percentage, and dot-ball percentage among batters who have faced over 50 balls in this phase.
Beyond the IPL, Stubbs has demonstrated his finishing prowess throughout his T20 career, marked by a stellar strike rate during the late overs. His dot-ball percentage is the lowest among his peers in the same category, which indicates his capacity to maintain high scoring efficiency.
Back in the IPL, Stubbs has delivered significant strikes, particularly against both slower and faster bowlers, maintaining extraordinary strike rates. His contributions have been pivotal in close chases, as seen in crucial matches against teams like LSG and RCB, where he played a part in match-winning partnerships. As the tournament intensifies, his performance will be crucial for DC’s playoff aspirations.
