In recent weeks, our focus has shifted to the newest prospects, particularly those whose professional journeys began just last week, if at all.
While these young players hold significance for their new teams, it’s the prospects nearing the Major League level that clubs will rely on in the latter part of the season. Below is a summary of one key prospect to monitor for each team as the season progresses.
BLUE JAYS: Trey Yesavage
The Blue Jays’ farm system has thrived this year, but attention is now on players who can contribute to the major league team. Although Yesavage, who recently participated in the Futures Game, may not be ready just yet, opportunities could arise depending on various factors, including the health of MLB players and his performance at Double-A. The Blue Jays aim to have their top 13 pitchers on the roster, making future discussions about Yesavage plausible.
ORIOLES: Samuel Basallo
Despite several catchers going on the injured list, the Orioles have focused on the long-term development of Basallo, who has been performing well in Triple-A. After hitting 19 home runs in the first half, the 20-year-old could make his MLB debut before 2025 ends.
RAYS: Carson Williams
After a rocky start in Triple-A, Williams has turned his season around with a strong performance, showing promising offensive stats. While not expected to aid the Rays in the immediate term due to existing shortstop options, a strong finish could position him as a vital player next season.
RED SOX: Roman Anthony
At just 21, Anthony is already making waves in the majors, often batting in the top part of the order. Despite the heightened competition, he appears unfazed and demonstrates considerable offensive potential, which could become apparent in the following weeks.
YANKEES: Cam Schlittler
Schlittler made a notable appearance in July, impressing with his strikeout ability and fastball velocity. With opportunities to stay in the rotation, he may play a significant role as the season unfolds.
GUARDIANS: Chase DeLauter
As DeLauter seems poised for an MLB debut this summer, his health remains a priority. Despite past injuries, he has been performing well in Triple-A and looks to continue building on his progress.
ANGELS: Christian Moore
Moore is currently sidelined with a thumb injury but is expected to return soon. He has shown promise in his initial games, both offensively and defensively, and should enhance the infield upon his return.
