T20 captaincy has evolved; coaches are now guiding from the sidelines. Is this an acceptable change?
I support proactive coaching from the boundary. It’s effective, and we welcomed such insight when recruiting Dinesh Karthik to enhance tactical knowledge during games. However, a strong captain is crucial for decision-making on the field and team dynamics.
What about captains who might feel their authority is diluted?
Each captain is unique in how they handle this. For instance, Eoin Morgan was highly receptive to additional data during games. In contrast, Rajat also values information but must be able to process and interpret various inputs to make final decisions.
How do you manage player communication during critical moments?
Communication is vital; for instance, Rajat might consult with us regarding whether to use a spin bowler in a specific over or to tweak field placements based on match conditions and the opposition’s strengths. Effective dialogue enhances decision-making.
Reflecting on the 2025 season, what were the significant challenges faced?
The early season featured a challenging schedule with pivotal away matches. While we could dismiss historical losses, we aimed to establish momentum quickly against teams with strong records. Ultimately, our focus remained on delivering our best performance irrespective of external pressures.
